Morning

After Waking Up

Purpose: Thank Allah for giving life after sleep.

Arabic

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Transliteration: Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ahyana ba`da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur.

Meaning: All praise is for Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.

Night

Before Sleeping

Purpose: Sleep with trust in Allah and remembrance.

Arabic

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

Transliteration: Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya.

Meaning: In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.

Food

Before Eating

Purpose: Begin eating with the name of Allah.

Arabic

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ

Transliteration: Bismillah.

Meaning: In the name of Allah.

Food

After Eating

Purpose: Thank Allah for food and sustenance.

Arabic

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

Transliteration: Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi at`amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah.

Meaning: All praise is for Allah who fed me this and provided it for me without any might or power from me.

Purity

Before Entering Toilet

Purpose: Seek protection from impurities and evil.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

Transliteration: Allahumma inni a`udhu bika minal-khubthi wal-khabaith.

Meaning: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female devils.

Purity

After Leaving Toilet

Purpose: Ask forgiveness and show gratitude.

Arabic

غُفْرَانَكَ

Transliteration: Ghufranak.

Meaning: I seek Your forgiveness.

Home

Entering Home

Purpose: Seek blessings and peace for the household.

Arabic

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَلَجْنَا وَبِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَرَجْنَا وَعَلَى رَبِّنَا تَوَكَّلْنَا

Transliteration: Bismillahi walajna wa bismillahi kharajna wa `ala Rabbina tawakkalna.

Meaning: In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we rely.

Home

Leaving Home

Purpose: Place trust in Allah and seek protection.

Arabic

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

Transliteration: Bismillah, tawakkaltu `alallah, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.

Meaning: In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah. There is no power and no strength except with Allah.

Masjid

Entering the Mosque

Purpose: Ask Allah for mercy when entering His house.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

Transliteration: Allahummaftah li abwaba rahmatik.

Meaning: O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.

Masjid

Leaving the Mosque

Purpose: Ask Allah for His favor after worship.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

Transliteration: Allahumma inni as`aluka min fadlik.

Meaning: O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.

Travel

Dua for Travel

Purpose: Seek safety and ease on journeys.

Arabic

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ

Transliteration: Subhanal-ladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun.

Meaning: Glory be to Him who has subjected this for us, and we could not have done it ourselves; and surely to our Lord we will return.

Weather

When Rain Falls

Purpose: Ask Allah for beneficial rain.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا

Transliteration: Allahumma sayyiban nafi`a.

Meaning: O Allah, make it beneficial rain.

Daily Routine

When Wearing New Clothes

Purpose: Thank Allah for clothing and honor.

Arabic

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي كَسَانِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلَا قُوَّةٍ

Transliteration: Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi kasani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah.

Meaning: All praise is for Allah who clothed me with this and provided it for me without any power from me.

Daily Routine

Looking in the Mirror

Purpose: Ask Allah for beautiful character and manners.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ كَمَا حَسَّنْتَ خَلْقِي فَحَسِّنْ خُلُقِي

Transliteration: Allahumma kama hassanta khalqi fahassin khuluqi.

Meaning: O Allah, just as You made my appearance good, make my character good.

Manners

After Sneezing

Purpose: Praise Allah and follow Sunnah etiquette.

Arabic

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ

Transliteration: Alhamdulillah.

Meaning: All praise is for Allah.

Need

For Anxiety or Difficulty

Purpose: Seek ease and reliance on Allah during hardship.

Arabic

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

Transliteration: Hasbunallahu wa ni`mal-wakil.

Meaning: Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.

Repentance

Seeking Forgiveness

Purpose: Ask Allah to forgive sins daily.

Arabic

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ

Transliteration: Astaghfirullah.

Meaning: I seek forgiveness from Allah.

Family

Dua for Parents

Purpose: Pray for Allah’s mercy on parents.

Arabic

رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا

Transliteration: Rabbir-hamhuma kama rabbayani saghira.

Meaning: My Lord, have mercy upon them as they raised me when I was small.

Learning

For Increase in Knowledge

Purpose: Ask Allah to increase beneficial knowledge.

Arabic

رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Transliteration: Rabbi zidni `ilma.

Meaning: My Lord, increase me in knowledge.

General

Comprehensive Dua for Good

Purpose: Ask for goodness in this life and the next.

Arabic

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Transliteration: Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina `adhaban-nar.

Meaning: Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Purity

After Wudu

Purpose: Affirm faith and seek acceptance after ablution.

Arabic

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Transliteration: Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan `abduhu wa rasuluh.

Meaning: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.

Prayer

After Hearing the Adhan

Purpose: Ask Allah to grant the Prophet the highest station.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْقَائِمَةِ آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الْوَسِيلَةَ وَالْفَضِيلَةَ وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ

Transliteration: Allahumma Rabba hadhihid-da`watit-tammah was-salatil-qaimah, ati Muhammadanil-wasilata wal-fadilah wab`ath-hu maqaman mahmudanil-ladhi wa`adtah.

Meaning: O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and established prayer, grant Muhammad the intercession and virtue, and raise him to the praised station You promised him.

Decision

Istikhara (Seeking Guidance)

Purpose: Ask Allah for guidance when making important choices.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ

Transliteration: Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi`ilmik wa astaqdiruka biqudratik.

Meaning: O Allah, I seek Your counsel by Your knowledge and seek ability by Your power.

Daily Routine

Entering the Market

Purpose: Remember Allah in places of distraction.

Arabic

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration: La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, yuhyi wa yumit, wa huwa hayyun la yamut, biyadihil-khayr, wa huwa `ala kulli shay in qadir.

Meaning: None has the right to be worshipped except Allah alone with no partner; to Him belongs dominion and praise; He gives life and death, and He is Ever-Living and does not die; in His hand is all good, and He is over all things capable.

Health

Dua for the Sick

Purpose: Ask Allah for healing and mercy.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا

Transliteration: Allahumma Rabban-nas, adhhibil-ba sa, ishfi Antash-Shafi, la shifa a illa shifa uk, shifa an la yughadiru saqama.

Meaning: O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm and cure; You are the Healer, there is no cure except Your cure, a cure that leaves no illness.

Need

Dua in Distress

Purpose: Call upon Allah during sadness and hardship.

Arabic

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration: La ilaha illa Anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin.

Meaning: There is no god except You; glory be to You; indeed I was among the wrongdoers.

Finance

Dua for Debt Relief

Purpose: Ask Allah for lawful sufficiency and ease from debt.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

Transliteration: Allahummakfini bihalalika `an haramika wa aghnini bifadlika `amman siwak.

Meaning: O Allah, suffice me with what You made lawful instead of what You made unlawful, and enrich me by Your grace from needing anyone besides You.

Calendar

Seeing the New Moon

Purpose: Welcome the month with faith and safety.

Arabic

اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْأَمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ

Transliteration: Allahumma ahillahu `alayna bil-amni wal-iman was-salamati wal-islam.

Meaning: O Allah, let this moon appear over us with security, faith, safety, and Islam.

Remembrance

Visiting the Graveyard

Purpose: Pray for the deceased and remember the Hereafter.

Arabic

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ بِكُمْ لَلَاحِقُونَ

Transliteration: As-salamu `alaykum ahlad-diyar minal-muminina wal-muslimin, wa inna in sha Allahu bikum lalahiqun.

Meaning: Peace be upon you, dwellers of these abodes, among the believers and Muslims; and indeed, Allah willing, we will join you.

Protection

Morning and Evening Protection

Purpose: Seek protection from all harm through Allah.

Arabic

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Transliteration: Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma`asmihi shay un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama i wa Huwas-Sami`ul-`Alim.

Meaning: In the name of Allah with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
